What we shoot
Barebow
Barebow archery involves using a recurve bow but without any additional accessories like stabilizers or sights.
Although traditionally used in field archery, barebow shooting is now also recognized in target archery.
Recurve
The recurve bow is the modern version of the traditional bows that have been crafted and used for centuries, both in the UK and globally. It’s one type of bow used in Olympic archery.
Recurve bows are typically equipped with sights and stabilizers to help improve shooting accuracy.
Compound
Designed for optimal efficiency and power, compound bows use a system of pulleys and cables, reducing the physical effort required from the archer and making it easier to hold the bow at full draw.
With the use of magnifying sights and mechanical release aids, the compound bow offers greater accuracy at longer distances compared to other types of bows.
Longbow
The longbow is one of the most historically significant and traditional bow types in the UK. Longbows are still primarily made from wood, with yew being the traditional choice.
If a bow retains the longbow’s traditional design but is made from a different material, it is referred to as an American flatbow.

FAQ
What equipment do I need?
Beginners don’t need to buy anything right away — we provide all the basic equipment for introductory sessions. If you continue, we can help advise you on what to buy based on your needs.
Is there an age limit?
Most clubs accept members from around 8 years old and up. There’s no upper age limit, but juniors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Do I have to shoot each week?
No. You’re welcome to come as often or as little as suits your schedule.
Do I have to compete?
Not at all. Many members shoot purely for enjoyment and personal improvement. Competitions are entirely optional. There are even some local fun shoots hosted by us or surrounding clubs.
What safety measures are in place?
We ensure every session is run by experienced archers. We follow Archery GB safety guidelines, ensure range briefings are given, and enforce strict shooting line discipline.
How accessible are the venues?
Most of our venues are wheelchair accessible and have parking nearby. If you have specific accessibility needs, contact us in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate. Please remember that we shoot outdoors every Sunday and during the Summer.
